  • .....why? I mean really....speak normally. Because those at the lower end of the spectrum pay little to no tax or have a substantially lower effective rate than the rest of the brackets. Define "fair", what "fair" from a purely numerical standpoint?

  • In such a case, progressive would be correct. Not flat. A progressive tax is more equitable, but, it is far from "fair". That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying it should be fair so the rest of your post is largely irrelevant and mostly platitudes.

  • Actually, that would be more "fair" than what we are doing now....whatever 'fair" means. The only proper and equitable way for taxes to work, is just like we do with everything else in society that we pay for....Government is products and services.

  • ....we are talking about rates. The the most equitable way to apply a "fair" tax - would be a flat rate. Anything else is unfair. I think it's an ignorant idea - but - if we're talking rates, and rates alone, it is the only equitable solution.
